Writer's Salon

We host a regular Writer's Salon that gives students a space for regular, consistent and focused writing. It is also a great space to meet other people that love creative writing. In the first half an hour we offer writings prompts, advice on specific problems, discussions or feedback.

Feedback Roundtable

The Spill of Quill creative writers club invites you to our first Feedback Roundtable. An evening dedicated to your creative writing projects.

Whether you’re working on a poem, a short story, a novel, or something entirely different, here you will have the opportunity to present a finished or unfinished piece of your writing and receive notes and feedback on it. This event provides you with a comfortable space to present and read your work to other creative minds, receive input on your writing as well as provide feedback for other writers and discuss each other’s creative work and process.

How will this work? You will give feedback in small groups. Each person will read a piece of their work and receive feedback on it. Afterwards, we will give you time to implement the feedback, and if you want, you can then present your piece to the entire group in return for additional feedback!

Note that each person will get a 15–20 minute timeframe for reading and feedback in the smaller groups. So we advise you to choose a piece of your writing that you can present in maximum 5-7 minutes to have enough time for feedback. For example, you can present a poem, a short story or a few pages of a specific scene or dialogue you want to get feedback on. Before presenting your work, consider whether there is something specific you want feedback on – this is your opportunity to ask about it! Whether it’s feedback on what feeling your poem evokes, on your characters, on a scene or even on a plot point. Additionally, you can use your individual time after the small group session to continue discussing the feedback with people from your group.

The evening is specifically for you to present your writing in front of a small audience, receive input on your work, connect with others through your writing and for us to help each other in our creative writing.

We are looking forward to seeing you and to getting a glimpse into your writing!

Program:

18:15 – 18:30: Welcome

18:30 – 19:30: Group Work (reading and feedback in groups of 3-4 people)

19:30 – 20:00: Individual Time (implement feedback or further group discussions)

20:00 – 20:30: Reading your work to the whole group (optional)

20:30 – 22:00: Open End

Bring with you:

  • A little bit of courage (but not too much: we’re all nice)

  • A piece of your writing (in English or German)

Choose a piece that you can present in about 5 to 7 minutes & consider what you would like feedback on.

Snacks will be provided ;)
